Study Group on Couples Therapy 2011-2012

2nd Friday of every month beginning in October – 1:10-2:40pm
Upon completion of this study group, participants will be able to:
- Discuss the application of relational and self psychological concepts in couples therapy.
- Describe an understanding of the multiple individual realities present in each therapeutic session and successfully use that understanding in couples therapy.
- Assess couples' attachment styles and demonstrate therapeutic approaches to working with couples' varying styles.
- Report an increased ability to sustain empathy in couples therapy.
- Employ clinical approaches that elicit and deepen emotional expression in couples therapy.
- Identify clinical approaches to use while working with oppositional couples.
- Expand knowledge of techniques to treat sexual difficulties in couples.
- Explain the relationship dynamics and therapeutic approaches to working with issues related to internet pornography and cybersex.
- Use clinical approaches to help couples navigate the feelings of loss and betrayal caused by infidelity.
- Report an increased effectiveness in utilizing the therapist's countertransference feelings in couples therapy.
