Study Group on Couples Therapy 2011-2012

2nd Friday of every month beginning in October – 1:10-2:40pm

Upon completion of this study group, participants will be able to:

  1. Discuss the application of relational and self psychological concepts in couples therapy.
  2. Describe an understanding of the multiple individual realities present in each therapeutic session and successfully use that understanding in couples therapy.
  3. Assess couples' attachment styles and demonstrate therapeutic approaches to working with couples' varying styles.
  4. Report an increased ability to sustain empathy in couples therapy.
  5. Employ clinical approaches that elicit and deepen emotional expression in couples therapy.
  6. Identify clinical approaches to use while working with oppositional couples.
  7. Expand knowledge of techniques to treat sexual difficulties in couples.
  8. Explain the relationship dynamics and therapeutic approaches to working with issues related to internet pornography and cybersex.
  9. Use clinical approaches to help couples navigate the feelings of loss and betrayal caused by infidelity.
  10. Report an increased effectiveness in utilizing the therapist's countertransference feelings in couples therapy.
