Short Course – Applications of Mind-Body Principals to the Treatment of Depression and Anxiety

This short course will focus on the affective and social neuroscience foundations to psychological well-being and the use of mind-body practices to facilitate treatment of depression and anxiety. Case examples will be included, and the short course will be both didactic and experiential. There will be an opportunity for the participants to ask questions. The short course will be of benefit to those who took the December ’08 workshop offered by these presenters, as well as to those who are new to Mind-Body Principles and did not attend that workshop.

At the conclusion of the short course, the participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the effects of mind-body practices on positive mental health and emotional balance
  • Apply mind-body techniques for the reduction of anxiety and life stress.
  • Explain the use of mind-body strategies in the treatment of depression.
  • Describe the interaction and convergence of relational psychologies (object relations, self psychology), neuroscience, and mind-body principles.

Fee: $60 for ICP&P members; $90 for non-members. (The short course will be limited to a maximum of 7 participants.)


Stephen Stein, PhD and Karen Schachter, MSW are well experienced in the use of mind-body techniques and use such techniques to treat a variety of presenting problems, including anxiety and depression.


CE credits

3 CE credits will be awarded.

CE credit hours will be awarded for full attendance of the program. ICP&P is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The Institute maintains responsibility for this program and its content. ICP&P has been approved by the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners to offer Category 1 continuing education credit. Because ICP&P has received approval from the Maryland Board, Credit Hours awarded by ICP&P may also be claimed by social workers licensed in Virginia and the District of Columbia. These continuing education credits meet the ANCC approval for nurses.
