Based on this presentation, participants will be able to:

  • Summarize what is meant by a Relational clinical orientation.
  • Differentiate between psychoanalytic technique and Relational clinical orientation.
  • Explain the therapist’s role in co-creating the analytic experience.
  • Describe the creation of analytic space.
  • Practice working with dissociation, enactment, surrender and negotiation within the relational orientation.
  • Describe treatment aims and the therapeutic process from a Relational orientation.

There will be time for discussions and questions.

Continuing Education Credits

3 credits will be awarded for full attendance.

ICP&P is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. ICP&P maintains responsibility for this program and its contents. ICP&P has been approved by the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners to offer Category I continuing education credit. Because ICP&P has received this approval from the Maryland Board, CE credits hours awarded by ICP&P may also be claimed by social workers licensed in Virginia and the District of Columbia. These continuing education credits meet the ANCC approval standards for nurses. Attendees will earn 3.0 CE credits for attending the conference. Full attendance is required to receive the designated CE credit. These CE credits meet the approved standards for Licensed Marriage & Family Therapists in the District of Columbia. Attendees will earn 3 CE credits for attending the conference. Full attendance is required to receive the designated CE credit.


The dress code of the Cosmos Club requires all men to wear suit jackets and ties in the public areas and all participants are prohibited from wearing jeans and tennis shoes. Ties and jackets can be removed inside the conference meeting rooms.

Parking is available at the Hilton Hotel, just west of the Cosmos Club on Massachusetts Avenue.
