Conference Three

Engagement and Developmental Enactment

Saturday February 4, 2012

Featured Speaker: Donna Orange, PhD Chair: Michael Wannon, PhD

This day will focus on a reconsideration of the concepts of reciprocal engagement (from intersubjective systems theory) and enactment (from relational psychoanalysis). These terms are used to describe the emotional world created by the therapist and patient as well as the reciprocal influence that occurs during the therapeutic encounter. Dr. Orange will explain her view of these concepts as developmental processes. Considering them in this manner has the advantage of helping therapists shift to a more trusting attitude toward their patients and themselves.
